Rechargeable Batteries

Although sales of rechargeable batteries have yet to get anywhere near the figures of standard batteries, they are steadily becoming more popular. Their increase in sales is partly due to the fact that they save both money and energy. It takes more energy to manufacture a standard battery, than the end product actually gives out.

Brands such as Ansmann, Duracell, Energizer, JCB, and Panasonic, are just some of the names currently producing various sizes of rechargeable batteries, suitable for use in most electrical appliances. The exception to this rule is a Smoke Alarm, as a rechargeable battery doesn’t give out any warning when power is low.

As a secondary industry, many companies produce battery charging units as well, which are either universal (with adapters for different devices) or product specific units. They range in price from value ranges, to full spec professional units. You can also buy charging units that fit onto I-Phones and I-Pods, which both protect them from damage, and extend the standby time of the product. Other accessories include battery testers and battery storage boxes.

The key thing to remember is, whichever rechargeable battery you buy, make sure you dispose of it safely, so harmful metals don’t escape into the environment.
